Maps Some fast facts about Maluku Capital: Ambon. (Ambon Island) Area: 74,505 sq km. Physical Features: This province is composed of thousand of islands. The Archipelago of Maluku stretching from north to southeast, consists of 2 main groups of islands, namely: Central Maluku: Ambon, Seram and Buru Islands, Banda and Gorong Archipelagoes, Watubela and Lusipara Islands; South/Southeast Maluku: Wetar and Gunung Api Islands, Damar Archipelago, Leti, Babar, Tanimbar, Kai and Aru Islands. This province is mountainous. Mountains: Binaiya, Kaupalaumada, Salahutu, Latua, Keiembutu and Gamkunoro. Lakes: Laguna, Tolire Besar, Duma, Rana, Telaga Maya and Choilim. Flora: Meranti (Dipterocarpaceae), gofasa, ironwood, lenggua and various kinds of orchid including "anggrek bulan" or white orchids. Fauna: Wild goat, buffalo, kuskus, parrot, taon bird and bird of paradise. Exports: Plywood, processed wood, veneer, rattan, resin, cacao, coconut cake, coconut oil, frozen shrimps and fish, nickel, manganese. Food Crops: Rice, corn, peanut and soybean. Commercial Crops: Coconut, clove, cacao, coffee and cotton. Fish Products: Tuna, skipjack tuna, barramundi, shrimp, anchovy, travelly, mackerel and garfish.
